HOUSEHOLD JEWELLERY CLEANING METHODS:
|
KEVERY PURCHASE COMES WITH A SPECIAL BONUS – A CLOTH TO CLEAN GOLD AND SILVER JEWELLERY!!!
TOOTHPASTE: Coat jewellery with toothpaste. After scrubbing it with a toothbrush, rinse it well in tap water.
CIGARETTE ASH PASTE: Combine cigarette ash with water and mix thoroughly. Apply this mixture with a brush and then rinse in tap water.
JEWELLERY WASHING: Put well-secured jewellery (old stockings or socks are best for this purpose) into a washing machine and wash with other laundry in the temperature ranging between 30°C - 40°C.
HOT BATH FOR SILVER OR SILVER PLATED ITEMS: Soak tarnished silver or silver-plated items in a hot bath consisting of 3 litres of water, 5 spoonfuls of vinegar and 4 spoonfuls of baking soda and keep them there for several minutes. Then rinse it in cold water and dry with a soft cloth.
ONION JUICE FOR GOLD: Apply onion juice on gold chains and bracelets. After a few hours polish them with a cloth.
SOAP FLAKES AND BAKING SODA:Place dirty jewellery in a jar, pour warm water with soap flakes and baking soda. Cover the jar with a lid and shake vigorously for a few minutes. Then, remove the jewellery, rinse it in warm water, dry and polish with a dry cloth.
CLEANING SILVER: Crush chalk to form powder, then add spirit and leave for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, polish with a soft cloth soaked with the mixture. Then wash in warm water with soap and ammonia or lemon juice. Rinse and polish with chamois leather.
PRECIOUS GEMS: Diamonds, sapphires and rubies set in gold should be polished from time to time with a soft cloth. You can also clean them with soap and water using a soft-bristled toothbrush, then rinse them and dry.
CORALS AND TURQUOISES: Corals and pearls should be worn as often as possible to retain their natural beauty, as contact with the ski serves as beauty-protecting agent. NOTE! Pearls must not be sprinkled with perfume or hairspray. If this is the case, dry them immediately. It is best to have natural pearls cleaned by a professional jeweller.
IVORY: NOTE!!! Ivory hates temperature fluctuations, dampness or lack of light. A good ivory cleaning method involves soaking in milk for a few hours and then drying in the sun to allow ivory to whiten. Ivory can also be soaked in water with soap and then cleaned with a soft-bristled brush. To polish ivory use a solution of turpentine (10%) and expose to the sun to whiten.
OTHER METALS:
NICKEL: Mix 50 g diatomaceous earth, 10 g burnt magnesia, 40 g Parisian red. After grinding, sift the powder through a fine sieve.
